How should you navigate a roundabout?

The key idea is that roundabouts work with a yield-and-go flow: you let traffic already in the circle go first, then enter when it’s safe, stay in your lane as you circulate, and signal when you’re exiting. Approach slowly and scan for gaps in the circulating traffic, giving way to vehicles that are already in the circle. Enter only when you can do so safely without forcing other drivers to slow or brake. Once inside, keep your speed steady and ride in your lane—don’t weave between lanes. When you’re ready to leave, signal to the right before you reach your exit so other drivers know you’re leaving, and cancel the signal after you’ve exited. Also be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists around the crosswalks.

Stoppers before entering aren’t the default rule unless you truly must yield to someone or there’s no safe gap. Jumping into the circle as quickly as possible or driving in any lane while ignoring exit signals disrupts the flow and creates hazards, which is why those approaches aren’t appropriate.
