High beams are meant to give you the farthest forward visibility, but they can blind other drivers. They’re best used on very dark, rural roads where there’s no oncoming traffic and no vehicles ahead to blind. In those conditions, you can see hazards—like animals or a hidden curve—much sooner. In busy city streets, during daylight hours, or when you’re following another vehicle closely, you should use low beams instead to avoid glare and keep others safe.
